Betty Matthews

August 18, 1938 — July 10, 2021

Betty Joe LaCour Matthews, age 82, passed away surrounded by family on Saturday, July 10, 2021 at the Natchitoches Regional Medical Center. Funeral services to honor her life will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday, July 16, 2021, at Blanchard-St. Denis Funeral Home with Father Blake Deshautelle officiating. Burial will follow at Memory Lawn Cemetery. Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be held at 1:30 pm with a visitation to be observed from 11 am until 1:30 pm in the chapel of Blanchard-St. Denis on July 16th. Betty was born August 18, 1938 to Armond Leon LaCour and Lilly Johnson LaCour. She was a devoted Catholic and attended Immaculate Conception Church. She loved her Lord Jesus Christ and devoted her life to helping others. She was a caretaker of many and always put others first. Betty always had a smile on her face and loved spending time with family and friends. With such a kind and loving heart, you could not find a better daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother or friend. She will be missed by everyone but she is dancing, singing and rejoicing with our Lord and other loved ones that went before her to heaven. She is no longer in pain and more alive today than ever. Betty had a life-long career at Northwestern State University, first working in the little round Post Office and then in the Film Library. Almost every Saturday she would bring her daughter to work with her. She retired from the Registrars Office. Most importantly she met and married the love of her life who also worked at Northwestern, Bobby Ray Matthews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bobby Ray Matthews and her parents, Armond Leon and Lilly Johnson LaCour. She is survived by her children, Tammy Shiver Hall, Jim Matthews, David Matthews and wife Patricia, Steve Matthews and Susan Matthews Johnson; sisters, Lois LaCour Stewart and Doris LaCour Heil. Betty will lovingly be remembered by her grandchildren, Chasity Hall Braud, Corey Hall, Jace Matthews and wife Melissa, and Ali Matthews Seher and husband Horst; as well as her great grandchildren, Cayleigh, Cylie and Caitlyn Braud, DeShay Juban, Korie and Zechariah Hall, Harper and Tenley Matthews and Hanalei Seher. Those honored to serve as pallbearers will be John Heil, Allen Heil, Brett Heil, Todd Mares, Jim Matthews, and Jace Matthews. …. ‘Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master’s happiness! Matthew 25:21 NIV
