Bernadette was a hard worker, and worked as a nursing supervisor at Central Hospital until her retirement.  Her love of care giving and children led her to babysitting and caring for the children in her community. She was lovingly known as the community grandmother and everyone called her “MawMaw Vercher”. She enjoyed spending time with her family and especially loved Christmas time.  Before her husband passed away, they would take an evening ride with their fur baby, Tiny.  Bernadette had a green thumb and had a great vegetable garden, fried eggplant was a favorite of her family.  She was a devout Catholic, attending St. John the Baptist, Holy Cross, and Immaculate Conception churches when she could before she was unable.  She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Lester Vercher; her parents, Norris and Bernadette Livingston; her sisters, Lucille Vercher and Stella Marie Livingston; her brother, Norris, Jr. and great-granddaughter, Alana Smith.  Bernadette is survived by her daughter, Nora Harris and husband Henry; granddaughters Juanna Smith and Sherina Thompson; great-grandchildren, Kaylee Smith, Todd Thompson, Ethan Smith, Abbie Thompson, and Amie Thompson as well as a sister Frances LaCaze.

Those honored to serve as pallbearers will be Ethan Smith, Todd Thompson, Michael “Bubba” Sanders, Tauren Remo, Ricky Sanders, and William Sanders.  Honoroary pallbearers will be Ricky Coe, Tevon Remo, Michael “Brute” Smith, and Clyde Thompson.
