Barbara Jo Cox

Ringgold, Georgia – Mrs. Barbara Boswell Cox, 86, beloved mother, wife and friend passed away Sunday May 19, 2024, at the Sheltering Arms Home in Palmer, Tennessee.

She was born in Shreveport – Bossier City area in Louisiana on December 1, 1937. At 17 she left home to go to Northwestern University in Natchitoches to study nursing. After receiving her R.N., she worked in hospitals in the southern Louisiana area. At 31 she studied in Dallas (Arlington) at the St. Joseph Hospital where she passed as a certified registered nurse anesthetist. She returned to Shreveport to work at the Shreveport Hospital before coming to Chattanooga in 1975. For a time, she worked as an anesthetist at Bradley Memorial Hospital.

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, Lake Boswell and Edna Neil Boswell along with her husband, John Michael Cox; brother, Burl Boswell.

She is survived by her sons, Wilson (Joan) Manceaux, Tracy City, TN, Derrell A. Manceaux, Morrison, CO, Michael T. Manceaux, McDonald, TN, Alan L. (Elisa) Cox, Paris, France; step-children, Belinda (Joel) Blomgren, Minnesota, Michael (Gina) Cox, St Pauls, NC and Matthew (Megumi) Cox, San Francisco, CA; sisters, Linda Lee, Beebe, Arkansas and Ruth Boswell, Florida; brothers, Jerry (Velma) Boswell, North Carolina, Paul (Debby) Boswell, Umpire, Arkansas, Douglas (Jeanette) Shreveport, LA and Michael (Doris) Boswell, Paris, TX; 5 grandchildren; a host of nieces and nephews.

Visitation: 5:00 PM – 9:00 PM Wednesday at Layne Funeral Home, Palmer, Tennessee.

Visitation: 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM Friday at Robeline First Baptist Church.

Funeral service will be held 12:00 Noon Friday at the Robeline First Baptist Church. 

Burial will be at Lambert Town Cemetery, Robeline, Louisiana.
