A service to honor the life of Mr. Richard Arlen McConathy will be held at 2 pm on Wednesday, August 26, 2020, at Blanchard-St. Denis Funeral Home with Bro. Rodney Achord officiating. Burial will follow at Fern Park Cemetery in Natchitoches. The family will receive friends from Noon until the time of services on the 26th. Arlen, 90 years of age and a resident of Natchitoches, passed away Friday, August 21, 2020. He was born August 15, 1930, to Oscar McConathy and Nora Parker McConathy. He was preceded in death by his wife Jean McConathy; a daughter Tracy McConathy; a brother and sisters. Arlen will be dearly missed by daughters Dianne Strother (Barry) of Ball, LA, Mary Barrios (Jerry) of Olathe, KS and Wendy Hudson (Brance) of Stonewall, LA. He was blessed with 11 grandchildren, Brandon Strother, Austin Niette, Brooke Teddlie, Tyler Strother, Cody Niette, Cory Niette, Morgan Davis, Lauren Gentry, Allyssa Barrios, Kamryn Barrios, and Bailey Strother and many great, and great-great-grandchildren. As well as numerous nieces, nephews, and others who called him Pawpaw Arlen. He also leaves behind his sister in-law, LaVerne Chambers and her son Randy Chambers (Mickey). Arlen loved sharing stories from his childhood growing up in rural Vernon Parish on McConathy Road. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed working in his yard and cooking. Arlen served in the U. S. Army from 1953-1955. He retired from Tenneco Gas Pipeline, April, 1988. Those honored to serve as pallbearers are Brandon Strother, Austin Niette, Tyler Strother, Cody Niette, Cory Niette and Noah Strother. Honorary pallbearers are granddaughters Brooke, Morgan, Lauren, Allyssa, Kamryn, and Bailey. In lieu of flowers please make a donation to St. Jude’s Children's Hospital in Arlen’s name.
