Anna Jearlean O’Bannon Ray

d. August 14, 2021

On Saturday, August 14, 2021, Anna Jearlean O’Bannon Ray, loving mother, grandmother and sister, passed away at the age of 82. Jearlean, also known as Jerri, was born in 1939 in Good Hope, Louisiana, to Harris and Pearl O’Bannon. She is survived by daughters Christi Vanoye (Carlos) and Paula Ray; grandson, Ethan Vanoye; sister, Earlean Smith; and sister-in-law, Polly O’Bannon; and a host of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers Hubert, Douglas, and Adrin O’Bannon. Jearlean graduated from Flora High School in 1957 and Natchitoches Trade School in 1959. Over the years, she worked as an office manager at the Natchitoches Office of Juvenile Justice, Roberts Lumber, the Central Louisiana Claim Service, and the dental office of Pamela McCalister, DDS. A devout Baptist, Jearlean was active in the Woman’s Missionary Union. She was a proud “Pink Lady” at the Natchitoches Regional Medical Center, and was named Volunteer of the Year in 2012. Jearlean had a passion for southern gospel music, and enjoyed traveling to Nashville and other spots for National Quartet Conventions. In her younger days, she was an avid bowler and traveler. After retiring, she loved working in her flower gardens, crocheting, reading, cooking, and watching the Braves and Cowboys. The family would like to thank the Natchitoches Regional Medical Center and Louisiana Extended Care Hospital for their loving care. She will be buried next to her parents in Weaver Cemetery in Flora, Louisiana, at a later date.
