Obituary

With heavy hearts and cherished memories, we celebrate the life of Alvin Eugene Cadwallader Sr., a devoted husband, loving father, proud grandfather and great-grandfather, and United States Army veteran. His life was filled with the blessings of family, love, and the generations that followed him.

Alvin was born on February 10, 1939, in West Point, Indiana, to Belva and Albert Cadwallader. In 1957, he proudly enlisted in the United States Army to serve his country. During this chapter of his life, fate brought him one of his greatest blessings when he met the love of his life, Doris Leo Cadwallader. On June 13, 1958, Alvin and Doris were united in marriage, beginning a love story that would grow into a beautiful family and a lifetime of treasured memories.

Together, Alvin and Doris were blessed with four children: Alvin Cadwallader Jr. (Sherry), Debbie Smith (Hugh), David Cadwallader Sr. (Mary), and Syndie Gusman (August).

As the years passed, their family continued to grow, bringing Alvin the joy of becoming a grandfather to eight grandchildren: Wayne Watley Jr. (Heather), Amiee’ Foster (Cliff), Megan Goff (Jerry), David Cadwallader, Amanda Helms (Bobby), Ashley Blaeholder (Chris), Alison Nolley (Raymond), Denise Henderson (Tim), Elizabeth Deloach (Wendell), and Joshua Deloach (Hailey).

His legacy of love continued through his 15 precious great-grandchildren: Silas, Dorian, Preston, Genesis, Bryan, Joel, Jude, Hayden, Kaylen, Colten, Ava, Maddox, Brooklyn, Mia, Ada Grace, Jace, Jaxon, Neveah, Brentley and Wesley. Each represents another beautiful branch of the family tree that began with Alvin and Doris so many years ago.

Alvin was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Doris Leo Cadwallader, and his parents, Belva and Albert Cadwallader. Although the loss of Doris brought the end of their earthly journey together, the love they shared and the family they built remain a beautiful testament to their life together. There is comfort in imagining Alvin reunited with his sweetheart, their love continuing beyond the boundaries of this life.

From a young soldier who found his sweetheart to a man blessed with children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, Alvin’s life became a story that spans generations. The family he helped build stands as a lasting reminder of the love, commitment, and memories that connect one generation to the next.

While his passing leaves an emptiness that words cannot fill, the love he leaves behind will never fade. His memory will live on in family gatherings, familiar stories, shared laughter, and the little moments that bring thoughts of him close to heart.

The greatest legacy a person can leave is not measured in years or possessions, but in the love that continues long after they are gone. Through his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, Alvin’s story will continue to be written for generations to come.

The family extends a special and heartfelt thank you to Dr. Boniol and the dedicated staff at CHRISTUS Highland Cancer Center and Hospital for the care, compassion, and kindness shown to Alvin and his family.
