Allen Ates went to his home in heaven Monday, February 14, 2022, while surrounded by family. Allen was born January 10, 1933 to Ira Cylvester Ates and Thelma JOY Franks Ates. Allen was 89. Allen was married to Helen Elmore Ates. They celebrated their 66th anniversary on November 7, 2019 before she went to heaven later that month. Above all, Allen loved Jesus. He always said, “I’m having a little talk with Jesus” He trusted God as his heavenly Father, Jesus as his Savior, and depended upon the Holy Spirit as his Guide. Second to the Lord, he loved his family. Allen and Helen had four children: Peggi Sue Ates Flowers (Chuck), Sherry Jo Ates Rivers (James Paul), Allen Max Ates (Judy Anne), and Lisa Marie Ates Borders (Shelby). He had eight grandchildren: Peter Flowers, Joseph Flowers, Caleb Oldham, Aaron Ates (Alicia), Anne Marie Ates Broadhead (Cody), Lindsey Borders Broadway, Brittany Borders, and Tyler Borders. He was also blessed with eight great-grandchildren: Jackson Flowers, Mia Flowers, Hunter Broadway, Ava Broadway, Bella Lopez, Gracie Borders, Chloe Borders, and Raeleigh Borders. Allen served as a deacon at Calvary Baptist Church and was active in the Natchitoches Baptist Association. He loved his job with Valley Electric for 44 ½ years as a lineman and later a District Superintendent. When he was not working at Valley Electric, Allen was working with cattle; he was a true cattleman. He also enjoyed being a Mason; he was a member of the Phoenix No. 38 F. & A. M. Allen was predeceased by his parents, Ira and Joy (Ma Joy), his wife, Helen, one daughter, Sherry Jo, brother, W. A. (Ann), and sister, Sybil (Roy). Arrangements are in care of Blanchard-St. Denis Funeral Home, Natchitoches, LA: Visitation: Tuesday, February 15, 2022, 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM, Calvary Baptist Church, 312 Highway 3191, Natchitoches, LA 71457 Service to celebrate his life: Wednesday, February 16, 2022, 10:00 AM, Calvary Baptist Church followed by burial in the church’s cemetery. The following ministers will officiate the service: Ralph Johnson and Max Ates. His grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Donations may be made in his name to Calvary Baptist Church, St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, or the charity of your choice. The family would like to thank all family, friends, and caregivers who loved and cared for him throughout life.
