Funeral service for Rodgers S. Nowlin will be held 10 AM Saturday, November 11, 2006 in Blanchard St. Denis Chapel with Rev. Craig Beeman and Rev. Ralph Johnson officiating. Burial will be in Fern Park Cemetery at Natchitoches, La. Visitation will be Friday, November 10, 2006 from 5 PM until 8 PM and on Saturday, November 11, 2006 from 8 AM until service time in the funeral home. Mr. Nowlin, 89, of Natchitoches, La., died Wednesday, November 8, 2006, at Life Care Hospital in Shreveport, La.
Rodgers was born in Flora, La in 1917. He married the love of his life, Eunice, in Natchitoches in 1940. He joined the service at Barksdale Field and was a veteran of World War II serving 9 years. He was a Master Sergeant for the 51st Air Squadron and recipient of the bronze star. He worked 34 years for Exxon Pipeline before retiring in 1979. Rodgers was active with church and community in the Oak Grove area. Among others, he was a member of the Simcoe Walmsley Masonic Lodge F&AM 359, and deacon emeritus of Calvary Baptist Church.
He is preceded by two daughters, Karen Nowlin and Hilda Nowlin Smith; parents, Louis Mitchell Nowlin, Sr. Emma Everage Nowlin; brother, Louis Mitchell Nowlin, Jr.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Eunice Koonce Nowlin of Natchitoches, La.; one daughter, Kay Kell and husband Roland of Pascagoula, Ms.; one son, Rodgers Sherwood Nowlin, Jr. and wife Shirley of La Marque, Tx.; grandchildren, James Harold 'Skip' Smith of Orlando, Fl., James Rodgers 'Jay' Smith of Daytona, Fl., Shannon Anderson of Bay St. Louis, Ms., Stacen Tyskiewicz of Vancouver Wa., Rex Michael Nowlin of Austin, Tx., and Cam Rodgers Nowlin of Clear Lake, Tx.; eleven great-grandchildren; sister, Florence Nowlin of Natchitoches, La.; brother, John W. Nowlin of Natchitoches, La.
Mr Nowlin’s grandsons will be the active pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Donald Hayward, Jim Bryant, Jack Jenkins, David Box, Ernest Taylor, Allen Ates, B.F. Greene, Paul White, James Morris, Harold Stephens, John Rushing, and John Nowlin.
