Service for Nathan Asbury Powell, Sr. will be held 10 AM Thursday, September 7, 2006 in Blanchard St. Denis Chapel with Rev. Donald Avery officiating. Burial will be in Memory Lawn Cemetery at Natchitoches, La. Visitation will be Wednesday, September 6, 2006 from 5 PM until 9 PM and on Thursday, September 7, 2006 from 8 AM until service time in the funeral home.
Nathan Asbury Powell, Sr. was born September 29, 1924 to Mrs. Stella Mae Forehand Powell and Nathan Augustus Powell in Vienna Ga.
He was graduated from Cohutta High School at Cohutta, Ga. in 1941.
After high school graduation he joined the U. S. Navy. He served in the Atlantic Fleet and was in the invasion of France, Asiatic and Pacific Theatre. He participated in the invasion of Okinawoa-Shima.
In 1945 he received an honorable discharge from the U. S. Navy.
He was employed by the Department of Interior, Fish and Wildlife Service, Fish Hatcheries for 33 years. His last duty station was Superintendent of Natchitoches National Fish Hatchery. He retired in December l979.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Helen Stansell Powell of Natchitoches, La.; three daughters, Emily Powell Stover and husband Bill Stover of Bixby, Okla., granddaughter Mylissa Stover Miller and husband Aaron Miller of Colorado; Sara Sue Powell of Greenville, N.C.;
Penny Powell Antley and husband Floyd Antley, Jr. , grandson, Andy Antley and granddaughter, Lorrie Beth Antley of Lafayette, La.; two sons, Nathan Asbury Powell, Jr. and wife Mary Lynn Powell, grandsons, Nathan A Powell III U. S. Marines and Richard Tucker Powell of Tyler, Tx.; Eddie Fenn Powell and wife Annette Powell, granddaughters, Kendall Marie Powell and Devon Elizabeth Powell of Alexandria, La.
Pallbearers will be Louie Bernard, Jim Briggs, Jackie Bryant, Wayne Choate, Kenneth Kaufman, and Larry Kirkland.
