A service to honor the life of Mr. Willie Sibley Powell, Jr. will be at 10 am Wednesday, July 27, 2016 at Blanchard-St. Denis Funeral Home with Bro. Matt Carpenter and Bro. Justin Coburn officiating. Interment with military honors will be at Emmanuel Cemetery in Chopin, LA. The family will receive friends from 5 pm until 9 pm on Tuesday, July 26th at Blanchard-St. Denis Funeral Home of Natchitoches.
Willie Sibley Powell, Jr., 67 years of age and a resident of Derry, LA, passed away Friday, July 22, 2016 in Houston, TX. He was born December 1, 1948 to Willie Sibley Powell, Sr. and Laura Lee Stewart Powell in Robeline, LA. He proudly served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He received a Purple Heart for wounds he incurred while fulfilling his patriotic duty. He was the owner of TNT Tire in Colfax, LA. An active member of Cane River Missionary Baptist Church, he served as deacon for over 30 years. Willie was a true Christian example for anyone to follow; he always assisted others in need even if it meant he did without. He never met a stranger and enjoyed visiting and telling stories with anyone who would listen. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and brother and will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
He leaves behind his wife of 48 years, Linda Bynog Powell; sons, Tim Powell and Terry Powell, Sr. both of Derry, LA; daughter, Mechelle Powell of Derry, LA; sister, Lucille Ashby of Blanchard, LA; and a brother, Gerald Powell of Shreveport, LA. He was blessed with four grandchildren, Katie Powell, Lexi Powell, Leann Powell and Terry Powell, Jr.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Nelda Berry and Rutha Lee Basco.
