Nora Lee "Boonie" Roque Balthazar

A Mass of Christian Burial for Nora Roque Balthazar will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, July 28, 2016 at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Natchez, LA with Father Charles Ray officiating. Interment will follow at St. Augustine Catholic Church Mausoleum in Natchez, LA. The family will receive friends from 9:00 - 11:00 am on July 28, 2016 at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Natchez, LA with a rosary at 10:00 am. Nora Balthazar “Boonie”, 78 years of age, passed away July 21, 2016. Nora was born December 25, 1937 to the late Charley and Daisy Llorens Roque in Bermuda, LA. She grew up in Natchitoches and attended Central High School where she was the Homecoming Queen. She married the love of her life, Joseph C. Balthazar, on June 28, 1958 and shortly thereafter moved to New Orleans where they resided until Hurricane Katrina. Later they retired and moved back to Cane River. She was a preschool teacher for 37 years at Sheila and Sharon’s Nursery School where she taught 4 & 5 year olds. She was a Christmas baby and everyone made sure that she never got shorted. Even as she received these gifts she still outdid them with the gift of herself. She was committed and involved in the lives of her children, grandchildren and great grandchild. She took great pleasure in watching them compete in various sports cheering them on in any kind of weather. She was a Christian mother and was heavily involved in her church, St. Augustine Catholic Church in Melrose, LA. Nora is survived by her husband of 58 years, Joseph C. Balthazar; daughter, Angela Balthazar Vaughn and husband Leon K. Vaughn; son, Joseph "Joey" C. Balthazar, III. and wife Jean; grandsons, Paul Balthazar, Leon K. Vaughn, II. and Austin B. Vaughn; great granddaughter, Thamerin Balthazar; sisters, Elizabeth Bernestine and Theresa Norman; brother, Joseph L. Roque, Sr.; brother-in-law, Herbert Rachal; sister-in-law, Lorraine Conant; special cousin, Elizabeth LaCour; and a host of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Charley and Daisy Llorens Roque; sisters, Annie Mae Bernestine and Jesweater Metoyer; brothers-in-law, Albert Bernestine, Gerard Bernestine, and Wilfred Rachal; sisters-in-law, Loretta Roque, Linda Rachal, Zenobia LaCour and husband Ernest LaCour, and Maxine Flournoy and husband Leon Flournoy, Sr.
